Hindi Chair to be set up at Dhaka University
Dhaka University and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishing a Hindi Chair at the university.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique and Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides at a ceremony at the Institute of Modern Languages at the university.
Director of the Institute Prof Ifat Ara Majid was also present.
The first Hindi e-magazine in Bangladesh was also launched marking the World Hindi Day on Tuesday.
A DU press release said the Hindi Chair will be established soon. A senior Indian Professor will be appointed to the Chair aiming to conduct research for expansion and modernisation of Hindi language.
Speaking on the occasion, Shringla said, “On this occasion, we are signing the Memorandum of Understanding for Establishing a Hindi Chair at the University of Dhaka.”
“Under the guidance of Hindi Professor from the ICCR, Hindi classes in Dhaka will see further improvement, and courses at higher level will be offered,” he said.
Hindi students of Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) have also secured top places in the competitions organised at all India level and also by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, Shringla added.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Dhaka inaugurated the Hindi Department at the Institute of Modern Languages on June 07, 2015.
