New draft law proposes official clearance mandatory for land use anywhere in the country

A draft law relating to use of land across the country has been cleared on Monday at the regular cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.   The new law proposes mandatory official clearance for building houses in rural areas and use of land anywhere in the country.   The draft titled 'Urban and Regional Planning Act 2017' has also provisions of five-year prison term and a Tk 5 million fine as penalties for offenders.   A 27-member committee will be formed under this law, headed by the minister for housing and public works, which will monitor the implementation of this law.
