Sheikh Jamal DC outplay Sheikh Russel KC

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd emerged as the group B champions of Federation Cup 2017 beating Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra by 4-1 goals in the penalty shootout in the last group stage match on Friday.   The match was held at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital at 5:30 pm.   The match was a visual delight for the spectators and football fans of the nation. Both teams tried their best to secure the top position of the group.   Sheikh Russel and Sheikh Jamal booters started to attack from the opening minute of the match.   In the first half both teams created some chances but couldn’t finish with a goal. The first 45 minutes of the game was action packed but goalless as both the goalies hold their place with magnificent defence.   Jamal almost got their first goal in the 19th minute when Solomon took a long shot but that missed the net by few inches. Russel’s Gambian forward Dauda Cisse made a power shot in the 35th minute to the goalpost but Jamal’s goalkeeper Samiul Islam somehow defended that shot.   The second half of the match was similar to the first half. Few chances of goals and missed opportunities made the scoreline 0-0 till the final whistle.   After 90 minutes play the match was decided for penalty shoot-out to determine group winner and runners-up place.   Sheikh Russel failed miserably to Sheikh Jamal’s defence and netted only once. Arup Kumar Baidya of Sheikh Russel was the lone scorer for their team. Elit Benzamin and Khalekuzzaman couldn’t make it go through Jamal’s goalie Samiul’s hand.   On other side Jamal netted four to seal the champion’s spot. Odoin, Md Alauddin, Zahid Parvez and Momodu Bah scored easily which make the goal margin 4-1.   Sheikh Jamal will meet group C runners-up and Sheikh Russel will face group C champions in the quarterfinal of the prestigious curtail opener football tournament of the year.   In the last group stage match of the tournament, defending champions Dhaka Abahani Ltd will lock horns with Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra on Sunday at the same venue.
