Rangpur city mayor pledges safe drinking water for all

RANGPUR: Rangpur City Corpo-ration Mayor Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has pledged to ensure supply of safe drinking water for the people of the city. He made the commitment while speaking at a concluding session of a workshop in the city on Tuesday.
“Construction of a number of water treatment plants, pipe lines and other necessary infrastructures will be completed soon,” said the mayor.

The city corporation with assistance of the Department of Public Health and Engineering (DPHE) organised the workshop titled ‘Planning for safe water’ at the conference room of the city corporation.
With Acting Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Fazlul Kabir in the chair, its Superintending Engineer Emdad Hossain, Executive Engineer Azam Ali and Medical Officer Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz, Executive Engineer of DPHE Yasin Arafat attended the workshop as special guests.
City Councilors from all 33 wards of the city, Officials of RpCC, DPHE and different NGOs involved with development activities in the city, civil society members participated in the daylong workshop.
The City Mayor said that massive infrastructural development works were being implemented on long-term basis for building a well-planned, modern, traffic-jam free and eco-friendly beautiful city ensuring all civic amenities.
To attain these goals, he sought sincere cooperation of all citizens for smoothly conducting construction works of the water treatment plants, water and electricity supply lines, roads, bridges, culverts, sewerage systems in the city.     —BSS
