17th Asian Art Biennale wraps up

The month-long 17th Asian Art Biennale ended at Jatiyo Nattyashala of the National Art Gallery, of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on Saturday.


A total of 467 artworks from the artists of 54 countries including Bangladesh participated  in the exhibition. Some 145 foreign artists, art critics, museum curators also participated in the Art Biennale.


From Bangladesh alone, a total of 556 artists submitted their artworks for consideration, with 154 artworks by 148 of them making the cut.


Nine artists were recognized witgh awards for their work.

Three grand prizes -- worth Taka 2 lakhs each, along with six honorable mention awards worth taka 50,000 each.


The month-long exhibition was a  showcase of two and three-dimensional artworks like painting, sculpture, prints, print photography, installation, new media art as well as seminars, performance art exhibitions, International Art Camp, and cultural programmes.


Students from different schools and colleges visited everyday in the exhibition.


The Art Biennale started its journey on 1981 with the participation of artists from 14 countries.
