A total of 8,520 examinees did not turn up for the SSC and equivalent examinations on the first day on Thursday while 16 were expelled for adopting unfair means.
On the first day, 16,44,130 candidates sat for the exams in 3,128 centres under 10 education boards, says a press release of the inter-education board coordination sub-committee.
It said 1,239 candidates of Dhaka Board, 431 of Rajshahi Board, 716 of Comilla Board, 432 of Jessore Board, 325 of Chittagong Board, 265 of Sylhet Board, 294 of Barisal Board, 369 of Dinajpur Board, 3,212 of Madrasa Education Board and 1,237 candidates of Technical Education Board were absent on the first day.
Besides, 10 candidates under technical education board, five of madrasa education board and one under Dhaka Board was expelled for adopting unfair means.
The press release was signed by Dhaka Education Board chairman Prof Mahbubur Rahman, also the president of inter-education board coordination sub-committee.
Another press release said that the secretary of National Bangla High School examination centre at Mirpur in Dhaka has been removed for neglect of duty..
