A suspected terrorist was killed and two children suffered bullet wounds in a gunfight between Bangladesh Army men and criminals in Lama upazila on Monday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
An army team took position at Naikkhongmukh of Ruposhipara union on Sunday night following information that a group of terrorists gathered there, said Major Mehedi Hasan of Bangladesh Army.
The army team encircled the gangsters when they came to the spot today noon to collect extortion money.
Sensing danger, the criminals opened fire on the army personnel, forcing them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.
A terrorist was killed in the gun battle while the rest managed to flee, Mehedi said, adding that two children were injured in bullets fired by the criminals.
Two magazines and different equipment were also recovered from the spot.
