‘Tasmina: The Horse Girl’ to be screened in Spain on 21st February

A documentary film made on the life of Naonga girl horse racer Tasmina by Faridur Rahman will be screened at MICE Film Festival at Valencia in Spain on 21st February.

 

Director Faridur Rahman and producer Mahbuba Begum Hena of the documentary left Dhaka on Wednesday to attend the festival as invited guest to be held on 19th-26th February.

 

The documentary focused on her life, struggle, and contributions to women empowerment.

 

Naogaon, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj and Pabna are among the districts which arrange horse race in the winter. Tasmina took part in the races for last three years in a row.

 

 

Nowadays, she wins over her male contenders.

Ironically, the prizes she wins do not go to her house, rather to the owner of the horse. Tasmina rides horses of other people in the race, since she has no horse of her own.

 

Meanwhile, ‘Tasmina: The Horse Girl’ received several international recognitions, including Best Short Documentary, Women’s International Entertainment Film Festival, etc.

 

Tasmina Aktar, an 11-year old horse racer and daughter of Obaidul Mandal, who lives in a remote village of Naogaon district. Horse riding has brought her much popularity in home and abroad.
