Ruet teachers withdraw indefinite strike

Teachers Association of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) on Saturday withdrew their work abstention temporarily, after 13 days of continuous strike.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the teachers’ association held around 10:30am.

The teachers’ association withdrew their strike after 21 days ultimatum to the authorities to take proper steps against the students who confined 16 teachers including the vice chancellor for about 20 hours during their 33 credit movement.

Earlier on February 5, the university cancelled the “33 credit system” over the students’ demonstration.

On the same day at an emergency meeting, the teachers association declared an indefinite strike demanding punishment to the students.

Since then, the teachers did not take any classes or conduct any examinations, which created a deadlock situation on the campus.

A five-member committee was formed by university authorities to investigate the complaints of the teachers on February 8.

Earlier, on January 28, a section of students of 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic sessions started demonstrating demanding cancellation of the “33 Credit System” which was introduced in 2013.
