Bangabandhu's bust unveiled in Sydney

The bust of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was unveiled on Monday at the International Centre for Ocean Governance (ICOG) of Western Sydney University in Australia.


According to a message received in Dhaka, Law Minister Anisul Huq, MP, and Professor Barney Glover, Vice-Chancellor of the Western Sydney University jointly unveiled the bust.


The bust was created at the Parramatta campus of the Western Sydney University with support of the Government of Bangladesh.


Among others, Kazi Imtiaz Hossain, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia and other visiting members of Bangladesh delegation were present at the function.


This is the first time that the bust of the Father of the Nation is unveiled in a University of the world.


Prior to unveiling the bust, the law minister had a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor to discuss about training facilities at the Western Sydney University for 516 judges of Bangladesh who will be attending various short term trainings and 24 judges and justice sector officials who will be pursuing higher studies under the project titled ''Capacity Building of Law and Justice Division for Strengthening Subordinate Judiciary Management'.


During his stay in Australia, the minister will be meeting George Brandis QC, Attorney General and Leader of the Government in the Senate of Australia, Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and Attorney General of New South Wales to discuss about comparative justice system of Bangladesh and Australia, practices followed in Australia to reduce case backlog, cyber- crime and also penal system and sentencing in Australia.


Anisul Huq is on a 5 day official visit to Australia and he will return Bangladesh on February 23.
