Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP's)  countywide semonstration held on Thursday to protest the government’s decision to raise the gas tariff.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme at a press conference at the party’s central office at Nayapaltan in the capital on Tuesday.

The demonstration started from 10:00 am and continued till 12:00 noon throughout the country.

The hike in gas price has already had an adverse impact on trade and industry while people of low-and-middle-income group have been badly hit by the price rise, Rizvi said.

On February 23, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (Berc) increased the price of gas.
