BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Friday said the party will not participate in any general election under the current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government.
He came up with the statement while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital. He along with the leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Matsyajibi Dal placed wreaths on the day.
Gayeshwar also urged the government to arrange the next general election under non-party or ‘helping government’.
Meanwhile, addressing a discussion at Photo Journalist Association auditorium in the capital, BNP vice-chairman Khandakar Mahbub Hossain said BNP will not take part in election in fear of cancellation of its registration.
“You [Awami League] are going to set up a trap by holding a farcical national election but we clearly want to say that we will not fall into the trap. It will be resisted in any way,” he added.
Reiterating his party’s demand for holding of the next general election under a neutral government, Mahbub said the election will not be fair and credible if it is held under the poll-time government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
