Supreme Court upholds Shawkat Aziz’ bail


The Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday upheld a High Court (HC) order that granted bail of Partex Group chairman MA Hashem’s son Shawkat Aziz Rasel in a graft case filed for plot allotment.


A three-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order on Sunday.


Defence lawyer barrister Rokon Uddin Mahmud stood for Rasel while prosecution lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan stood for Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).


On February 28, the high court granted three months bail for Shawkat Aziz. Later ACC appealed for staying his bail.


On February 8, ACC filed a case against  Shawkat Aziz and Ashfaq Aziz for alloting two plots in  Purbachal area in the capital.

After following day, ACC arrested Shawkat Aziz from Paribagh area.
