Biman employee sent to jail for helping gold smuggler

A Chittagong court on Wednesday ordered to send an employee of Bangladesh Biman to jail for helping a gold smuggler at Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport (CSAIA) in 2013.

The court of Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Shah-e-Nur passed the order after K M Nuruddin, a Traffic Helper of Bangladesh Biman, Chittagong station, surrendered before the court today.

Court sources said the customs authority recovered 25 gold bars after searching the luggage of a Dubai-returnee at CSAIA on November 1, 2013. After the seizure, allegations were brought against K M Nuruddin and six others for their involvement in helping the gold smuggler walk out of the airport area safely.

Chittagong Divisional Assistant Director of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Rahamat Ullah filed a case with city's Patenga police station against three persons while ACC investigation officer submitted charge-sheets against seven persons in this connection.

However, the rest five accused are yet to surrender before the court.
