Unidentified miscreants shot a so-called Pir and his adopted daughter to death and slaughtered them at a ‘shrine’ in Hatrampur under Bochaganj upazila in Dinajpur district on Monday evening.

The deceased were identified as Farhad Hossain Chowdhury, 55, son of Aminul Islam Chowdhury of Doula village, and his adopted daughter Rupali Begum, 20, daughter of Hoser Ali of Madhabpur village.

Slain Farhad was also former president of Setabganj municipality unit of BNP, UNB reports.

Locals said Farhad along with Rupali was staying at his ‘shrine’ at Hatrampur near Doula village in the evening. At one stage, electricity went off.

Under the cover of darkness, the miscreants shot them and later slaughtered them, they said.

Officer-in-charge of Bochaganj Police Station Habibul Haque Pradhan said the duo was murdered sometime between 7pm and 8pm.

On information, they went to the spot to recover the bodies, he told UNB over phone from the scene around 10pm.

There were marks of bullets and sharp weapons on the bodies, the OC said, adding that it was still not clear who were behind the killing.
