3 held over Dinajpur ‘Pir’ and ‘daughter’ murders


Police arrested three people in connection with the killing of a so-called Pir of Dinajpur district and his adopted daughter from Kurigram and Dinajpur districts early Wednesday, reports UNB.


Tipped off, a team of police raided the house of Esahaq Ali, 57, a self-styled  Pir of Pathordubi village in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram district, around 4:30 am and arrested him, said Menhajul Alam, additional superintendent of police of Kurigram.


The arrestee was handed over to Bochaganj Police Station of Dinajpur, the ASP added.


Two others --- Saidur Rahman, a khadem of Kadria Mohammadia Darbar Sharif, and his associate Samar Ali were arrested from Doula area in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur district at the dead of night, said Hamidul Alam, Dinajpur Superintendent of Police.


So-called Pir Farhad Hossain Chowdhury, 55, son of Aminul Islam Chowdhury of Doula village, and his adopted daughter Rupali Begum, 20, daughter of Hoser Ali of Madhabpur village, were shot to death and slaughtered by miscreants at a ‘shrine’ at Hatrampur in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur district on Monday evening.


Slain Farhad was also former president of Setabganj municipality unit of BNP.
