Mijarul's body likely to arrive on Sunday from Brazil

Family members of late Bangladesh Ambassador to Brazil and former Foreign Secretary Mohamed Mijarul Quayes on Thursday told that his body is expected to arrive in Dhaka on Sunday.

 

However, a foreign ministry official earlier said a special aircraft carrying Mijarul's body will leave Brasilia on March 17 and arrives in Dhaka on March 19 (Sunday).

 

Sources said, the Brazilian government will give him a guard of honour and Muslim community there will offer Namaj-e-Janaza prior to handing over the body to the embassy authority.

 

Mijarul Quayes breathed his last in Brasilia at 9 pm (Brazil time) on Friday following respiratory problems and others health related complications.

 

Family sources said his Namaj-e-Janaza would be held in Gulshan Azad mosque. Earlier, his body would be brought to the ministry of foreign affairs so that colleagues of Mijarul Quayes could pay their last respect to him.

 

From the ministry, his body is likely to be kept at Bishya Sahitya Kendra for sometimes so that people from all walks of life could pay their respect to the scholarly diplomat who used to spend most of his time after his office work in the Kendra by reading books and gossiping with eminent literary and cultural personalities.

 

Mijarul Quayes was very fond of art and culture and he had a big collection of arts and literary works in his own treasure.

 

The former foreign secretary was made ambassador to Brazil in 2014.

Earlier, he worked as the High Commissioner to UK.

 

He was previously Bangladesh's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russia.

 

Quayes, a career diplomat, joined the civil service in 1982.
