Karunaratne, Mendis steer SL past 100

Sri Lanka faced early jolts as Bangladesh spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz picked up early wicket in the second over of Day-4 of the 2nd match of Joy Bangla Cup series at P Sara Oval, Colombo on Saturday.

Mehedi made the early breakthrough in the Bangladesh’s 100th Test dismissing Lankan opener Tharanga (26 off 40b; 3×4) in the 15th over of hosts' second innings.

Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis were on batting, scoring 27 off 63 balls and 10 runs off 16 balls respectively.

Sri Lanka were 54-0 at stumps on the third day after bowling out Bangladesh for 467 runs in their first innings of the second Test in Colombo on Friday.

Upul Tharanga and Dimuth Karunaratne were the batsmen at the crease, with both having made 25, as Sri Lanka reduced Bangladesh's 129-run first innings lead to 75.

Earlier Shakib Al Hasan made 116 while Mosaddek, Mushfiq, Tamim and Soumya Sarkar scored 75, 49, 52 and 61 runs respectively.

Rangana Herath finished with 4-82 while Left-arm spinner Lakshan Sandakan also impressed  finishing with figures of 4-140.

Mosaddek and Mehedi had, after tea, batted steadily. There was only one boundary in the 12 overs they batted after the break, ending with Mehedi falling leg-before to Herath after making 24 off 50 balls.

Then the floodgates opened before Mosaddek lost faith in his No. 11 and looked to hit out.

The Test now largely depends on which side blinks first; whether Sri Lanka has a batting collapse or Bangladesh struggle really badly to bowl them out. But there's still enough time in the game for a result.
