The High Court on Sunday asked the government and Dhaka University authorities to hold Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) election in time.
The High Court, in a rule, also asked the concerned authorities to explain why election to its central students union would not be held within stipulated time.
A HC division bench comprising of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman issued the rule after hearing a writ petition filed by Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmad, former vice-president of DUCSU, and Zafrul Hasan Nadim, a current student of the university.
The court asked the secretary of education ministry, Dhaka University’s vice-chancellor, proctor and registrar to give explanation within four weeks.
The court also wanted to know why inaction in holding DUCSU election in past 26 years would not be declared illegal..
