Ershad vows to do more development in north Bengal if in power

Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Alhaj Hussein Muhammad Ershad said on Sunday that he would carry out more development works in the north Bengal if people voted him to power.

 

The former military ruler expressed his commitment while addressing the prize distribution ceremony of the annual sports competition at Akkelpur High School in Rangpur as the chief guest.

 

"If the people vote for JP candidates in all 32 seats in Rangpur division in next general elections, JP would go to power," Ershad said.

 

Ershad also the special envoy to the Prime Minister said there is only one public university (Begum Rokeya University) in Rangpur where no private university has so far been established.

 

"As a result, the students of the northern region have been suffering a lot in getting higher education," he said.

 

If voted to power, Ershad said, JP would also create huge employments for the local people through industrialisation and supplying natural gas through pipe lines to the northern region to speed up development works.

 

Later, the former president distributed prizes among the winners of the annual sports competition.

 

With Chairman of the school governing committee Abdus Salam in the chair, President of Rangpur city unit of Jatiya Party Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa addressed the ceremony as the special guest.

 

General Secretary of Rangpur district unit of Jatiya Party and former lawmaker Hossain Mokbul Shahriar Asif, the party's central committee member Shafiul Islam Shafi, Headmaster of the school Mohammad Golam Azam also addressed.
