'Thai Week' kicks off Wednesday

A four-day long annual trade fair 'Thailand Week' will kick off in the capital on Wednesday.


The trade fair will be jointly organised by the department of International Trade Promotion (DTP) under Ministry of Commerce of Thailand and Thai Embassy in Dhaka.


Minister Counselor (Commercial) of Thai Trade Centre in Dhaka Suebasak Dongboonruen announced through a press conference held at Jatiyo Press club in the morning.


Suebasak Dongboonruen said that the main purpose of the fair is to strengthen trade relations between Bangladesh and Thailand and bring good things for the wellbeing of Bangladeshis’ daily lives, especially those who have never been to Thailand.  


"This is the seventh Thai Week in Dhaka. It will run for four days (March 22-25) at Pan Pacific Sonargoan Hotel.

The first two days are set as trade days, mostly business-to-business. The last two days will be open to the public,” the Thai diplomat based in Dhaka said.


He said that a total of 50 companies from Thailand will display their products and services. Exporters comprise of both Thai exporters and Bangladeshi traders who import their products or act as agents of Thai Companies.


President of Bangladesh Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTCCI) Sajjatuz Jumma said Thailand is an advanced economy and is recognised globally as a hub of the Asia –Pacific region due to its impressive creation, innovation and development of versatile products.


“It is high time for both countries to boost relations with each other in order to nurture the economic diplomacy adopted in recent times. The trade fair will be a grand success and create in light of further enhancing business relations between our two countries,” he added.


Major categories of products and services displayed at the fair include medicare services, cosmetic, beauty and wellness products, bedding accessories, spa, electrical appliances, stationery, household products, fruit, food, textile and fabrics, lingerie, handbags, etc.


The fair will be open from 10am to 8pm every day.
