The ongoing India visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina appears to be most important for cementing bilateral relations between two neighbouring countries so far.
Although the ties between two countries are historic, the relations were not always that way. A crisis of confidence disturbed the relations sometimes in the past due to the political changeover in both countries.
But the situation is changing as the leaders of India have shown a gesture of friendship more profoundly than ever. Not only the Indian government but also political leaders, media and cvil society members are showing regard for Sheikh Hasina.
Hasina is the first head of government to enjoy the status of staying at the Indian Presidential Palace ‘Rashtrapati Bhavan’ during her visit.
On the arrival of Bangladesh premier, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Sheikh Hasina with flower bouquet at Indian Air Force's Palam Station in New Delhi going beyond regular protocol which was a cordial gesture from the Indian government.
In another friendly gesture, the Indian government on Thursday, a day before Hasina’s arrival, decided to name Park Street in Delhi after Bangladesh's founder Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other councilors approved the decision last night.
The whole Indian capital New Delhi has been covered with India and Bangladesh flags and the portraits of Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi ahead of the visit.
