15 injured as BCL activists clash with police in port city

At least 15 people were injured as Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists clashed with the law enforcing members in Chittagong this afternoon.

Among the injured, two were policemen. The clash occurred around 4:30 pm on Tuesday during a blockade and rally organised by BCL in port city’s Kazir Dewri intersection.

The activists of the city unit BCL tried to vandalise the construction works of a swimming pool at Chittagong Outer Stadium in Kazir Dewri area.

The BCL activists hurled brickbats when police intercepted them, triggering the clash.

According to police sources, police fired around 40 rounds of bullets from shotgun alongside tear shells and charged batons to take the situation under control.

A number of cars were also vandalised.
