The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 Wednesday indicted six alleged war criminals from Purbodhala, Netrokona, framing seven charges of crimes against humanity against them.
The six accused are Abdur Rahman, 70, Sheikh Md Abdul Mazid alias Mazid Mawlana, 66, Abdul Khalek Talukder, 67, Md Kabir Khan, 70, Abdus Salam Begh, 68, and Md Nuruddin, 70. Of the six, only Rahman is in custody and was produce before the tribunal during the indictment.
"The charges so framed have been read over in English and explained in Bengali to accused Md Abdur Rahman, present on dock, to which he pleaded not guilty and claimed to be tried," said Justice Anwarul Haque, chairman of the three-member panel of the tribunal, reports BSS.
The ICT-1 then set June 12 for placing opening statement by the prosecution and recording the depositions of the witnesses.
The prosecution on May 22, 2016, submitted the formal charge in the case, pressing seven charges of crimes against humanity against them.
Freedom fighter Abdul Kadir filed the case in 2013 over the murder of his elder brother Abdul Khaleque in August 1971. The case was later transferred to the ICT. The investigation report was submitted on Mar 16, 2016.
The seven charges are-
Abduction and murder of Dr. Hem Sundar Bagchi, Meghnath and Haridas Singh, looting house in village Rajpara under Purbadhala Police Station in Netrokona.
Abduction, confinement and torture of Abdul Gani Sarker alias Charu Miah of village Barha under Purbadhala Police Station in Netrokona.
Abduction, confinement, torture and murder of Abdul Khalek Talukder of village Barha, looting his house and setting it on fire.
Abduction, confinement, torture and murder of Mohir Uddin of village Barha, under Purbadhala Police Station in Netrokona.
Abduction, confinement, torture and murder of people from November 12, to 16, 1971 in different parts of Purbadhala.
Abduction, confinement, torture and murder of Haji Siraj Mondol alias Chandu Haji, looting and vandalizing his house in village Purbo Moudam under Purbadhala Police Station.
Rape of Jamila Khatun alias Nayeber Maa in village Purbobudi under Purbadhala Police Station.
