Bapex starts gas extraction at Sundalpur field

The state-run Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex) on Thursday has started extraction of natural gas from Sundalpur gas field in Noakhali.

Bapex Managing Director Engr Md Nowshad Islam launched the commercial extraction of gas from the Sundalpur-Shahjadpur gas project-2 around 12:00pm.

After inaugurating the gas project, he said, “Although the estimated amount of recoverable gas from this field cannot be ascertained at this moment, I think it would be one of the most commercially successful gas fields of Bapex.”

Sources said some 10 million cubic feet gas could be extracted everyday from this well.

The BAPEX extracted gas earlier from this gas field using a different well, but that is closed now and that is why the second well has been dug.

The BAPEX is planning to supply gas to the Chittagong region from this gas field if sufficient volume of gas is available in this field.
