4G service from July: BTRC

The government has taken a policy decision to provide the fourth generation or 4G service from the first week of July next, said Bangladesh Telecommunication Regularity Commission (BTRC) Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood.

"A policy decision has been taken to provide the 4G service from the first week of July next. All kinds of processes to provide 4G licence to the mobile operators will be completed by the current month," he said while talking to UNB over mobile phone after a meeting in this regard at the Secretariat on Monday.

Prime Minister's Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy chaired the meeting over several important issues of the post and telecommunications sectors, including 4G service, he said.

It was also decided in the meeting that the Bangabandhu satellite will be launched by December this year, said the BTRC chairman.

State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim and its Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder and high officials of the ministry were present at the meeting.
