Biman's pilot wins IFALPA

Capt. Sayed Mahbub Helal, a pilot of Biman Bangladesh Airlines has been honoured with prestigious 'President's Citation' regarded as the "Life-Time Achievement" award for an airline pilot.

 

For the first time in the aviation history, an Asian pilot achieved this highest award given by International Federation of Airline Pilots' Association (IFALPA) made a proud moment for Bangladesh and the national flag carrier, a Biman press release said Monday.

 

In every 5 years a technical jury board selects only one pilot for this award within the entire world's airline pilots' community.

 

This award was given to Captain Helal for his outstanding contribution towards the improvement of the Airline Pilots'.

 

The award was officially presented in Montreal, Canada, the home of ICAO and IFALPA, at the Gala Dinner on 6th May 2017 during the on-going 72nd Annual conference of the world pilots' forum.

 

The function was attended by 550 delegates from International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other industrial partners and stakeholders of the aviation world.

 

At his acceptance speech at the event, Captain Helal expressed his sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her continuing support in improving the aviation industry of Bangladesh.

 

Capt.

S M Helal was the President of Bangladesh Airline Pilots Association (BAPA) for several terms. He was an elected General Secretary of BAPA for consecutive 3 terms and President in 2006-2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013.

 

Capt. Helal joined Biman Bangladesh Airlines in 1984 and retired in 2014 as Commander of DC10 aircraft.
