Operation 'Sun Devil' resumes in Rajshahi ‘militant den’

After a brief suspension, law enforcers resumed their operation at Matikata 'militant den' in Godagari upazila on Friday morning, reports UNB.

Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan, additional deputy inspector general of Rajshahi range, said the law enforcers, including a bomb disposal unit, resumed the operation, codenamed 'Sun Devil', around 8 am.

A Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) reached the spot for recovering explosives and the bodies of the 'militants' killed during the operation at the den on Thursday, said Masudur Rahman.

Meanwhile, the unidentified militant who was also killed on Thursday, was identified as Ashraful, a resident of Sadar upazila in Chapainawabganj district.

Five suspected militants, including a woman, and a firefighter were killed in 'suicide blasts' and gunshots fired by 'militants' as law enforcers raided the militant hideout on Thursday morning.

The firefighter was identified as Abdul Matin, 45, while four of the 'militants' were house owner Sazzad Hossain, 50, his wife Beli Begum, 40, son Al Amin, 25 and daughter Karima Khatun, 17.

During the raid, police rescued two children -- Jubayer and Apiya -- from the house, said Hibjur Alam Munshi, officer-in-charge (OC) of Godagari Police Station. They are now in police custody.

Later, the law enforcers postponed the operation around 8 pm on Thursday.
