Young man stabbed dead in Jhenidah

A young man was stabbed to death allegedly by his rivals during an arbitration meeting at Khamarmundia village in Kaliganj upazila early Friday, reports UNB.

Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station, said there had been an altercation between two groups of people-one led by Belal and another by Shahjahan--as a goat of Belal entered the jute field of Shahjahan and ate up crops on Thursday morning.

Later, a village arbitration meeting was arranged over the issue on Thursday night.

During the meeting, a scuffle took place among supporters of both the groups. At one stage, they attacked each other with sharp weapons, leaving Wahidul Islam, 35, son of Golap Sheikh injured, the OC said.

Wahidul was taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex and then shifted to Jessore District Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 2am.

Meanwhile, police arrested two people --Saddam Hossain and Shahidul Islam--- in connection with the incident.
