Operation ‘Sun Devil’ at Godagari ‘militant den’ ends

 

The operation codenamed “Sun Devil” at the militant hideout in Godagari Upazila of Rajshahi ended on Friday morning.

 

Bomb disposal unit disposed bombs around 9:30am.

 

 

The second day operation was resumed around 9:00am.

 

Earlier, five suspected militants and a firefighter were killed during the raid at the militant hideout on Thursday.

 

Five suspected militants, including a woman, and a firefighter were killed in 'suicide blasts' and gunshots fired by 'militants' as law enforcers raided the militant hideout on Thursday morning.

 

The firefighter was identified as Abdul Matin, 45, while four of the 'militants' were house owner Sazzad Hossain, 50, his wife Beli Begum, 40, son Al Amin, 25 and daughter Karima Khatun, 17.

 

During the raid, police rescued two children -- Jubayer and Apiya -- from the house, said Hibjur Alam Munshi, officer-in-charge (OC) of Godagari Police Station. They are now in police custody.

 

Later, the law enforcers postponed the operation around 8 pm on Thursday.
