2 extremist leaders killed in Rajbari ‘gunfight’



Two extremist leaders of banned outfit Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) were killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Goalondo upazila of Rajbari early Saturday.


The deceased were identified as chief of Bappi Bahini Rakibul Hasan Roky alias Bappi, 35 and his aide Lalon Molla, 30.


The incident occurred from 3:00am to 3:30am at Rakhalgachi Char of Debgram union of the upazila.


Being informed, Bappi with his seven to eight aides were holding a secret meeting at the area, Rab conducted a drive, said Rois Uddin, additional superintendent of police, and also company commander of Rab Faridpur camp.


Sensing presence of the elite police, the outlaw leaders opened fire on them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate that triggered a gunfight, leaving the duo dead and others managed to flee from the spot.


Rab also recovered a foreign made pistol, a AK-22 rifle, two shooter gun, a sword and 60 round of bullets from the spot.


Two Rab members also were injured in the gunfight.
