The prime accused of Banani rape suspect Safat Ahmed booked the hotel room at Banani in the capital by claiming to be a friend of Awami League MP Bazlul Haque Haroon’s son, police sources said.
Metropolitan Detective Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Shahjahan said during the interrogation Safat told police he had booked the rooms claiming to be a friend of the owner.
Safat, the son of Apan Jewellers owner Dildar Ahmed, and his friend Sadman Sakif are currently remanded for a case involving the rape incident of two university students at the Raintree Hotel.
Mahim Haroon, the son of MP Haroon, is the manager of the four star hotel.
Mahim might be investigated in connection with the case as one of the rape victims had previously claimed they had seen someone named Mahim that night, detective officials said.
Quoting Detective Police Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Nazmul Alam bdnews24.com said, when asked about the incident one of the victims replied a birthday cake had been taken to Safat on the instructions of the hotel manager Mahim.
The victims, who were "raped" in the hotel in Banani on March 28, gave their judicial statements before a court in Dhaka in the case on Thursday.
One of the rape victims filed a case with Banani Police Station on May 6 accusing five people.
Of the accused, Shafat and Nayeem were sued for raping the two female university students while Shadman Sakif, 24, Shafat's driver Billal, 26, and his unnamed bodyguard for abetting in the crime.
According to the case statement, the plaintiff along with her friend went to the residential hotel at Banani to attend the birthday party of Shafat around 9pm on March 28..
