‘Robber’ killed in Meherpur ‘gunfight’


An unidentified robber was killed in a gunfight with police in Gangni upazila of the district early Thursday.


The incident occurred at Chotkhola field area on Kushtia-Meherpur highway around 2:00am. Two police members were injured in the gunfight.



The injured are sub-inspector of Gangni upazila Bakhtier Hossain and constable Abdul Haque.


Police also recovered two handmade bomb, a LG shutter gun, one round bullet and two country-made weapons.


Officer-in-charge of Gangni police station Anwar Hossain said being informed, a team of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery, police conducted a drive.


Sensing presence of the law enforcers, they opened fire on cops,  prompting the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a gunfight, leaving the unidentified robber injured.


Later he was sent to Gangni upazila health complex where doctor declared him dead.
