Siblings get life term for killing farmer in Sherpur

A Sherpur court on Thursday has sentenced two siblings to rigorous lifetime imprisonment for killing a farmer in Nakla upazila in 2009.

 

Mohammed Mosleh Uddin, additional session judge of Sherpur, handed down the verdict.

 

The convicted siblings are – Abdus Salam, 55 and Fozu Miah, 45, sons of Sabed Ali, residents of Bhurdi village of the upazila.

 

The court also fined Tk 10,000 each, in default, six months more imprisonment.

 

Besides, the court released four accused as they were found innocent.

 

According to the prosecution, two day labours -- Salam and Fozu -- used to work in the paddy field of Shahed Ali of the village on contract of Tk 500 per day.

 

On May 20 in 2009, they locked into an altercation with Sahed as he did not pay Tk 100 to them. At one stage, they hit Shahed with a bamboo stick, leaving him deaod n the spot.

 

Later, deceased’s wife Khaleda Begum filed a case with Nakla Police Station against six people including Salam and Fozu.
