North South University (NSU) on Wednesday honoured a total of 15 eminent citizens of the country for their outstanding contribution to their respective fields.
The university handed over honourary crests to the awardees at the closing ceremony of its three-day silver jubilee celebrations on the NSU campus at Bashundhara in the capital.
The awardees include Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Hossain Toufique Imam, veteran journalist Abdul Gaffar Choudhury, Prof Dr Anisuzzaman, Prof Dr Sohrab Ali, Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan, poet Asad Chowdhury, Prof Momtajuddin Ahmed, artist Mustafa Monwar, Prof Dr Sarder A Nyeem, Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, Lt Colonel Kazi Sazzad Ali Zahir, Commodore Abdul Wahed Chowdhury Bir Uttam, Mustafa Nurul Islam, Saima Wazed Putul, cricketer Mashrafe Mortaza and Everest winner MA Muhith.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed spoke at the ceremony as the chief guest while HT Imam was present as the guest of honour.
Vice Chancellor of the NSU Prof Dr Atiqul Islam, Chairman of the board of trustee Azimuddin Ahmed, and Pro VC Prof Dr Giasuddin Ahsan also spoke on the occasion, among others.
Earlier, the NSU launched the celebrations on its campus with a procession on Monday while the second session started with a discussion where information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest.
Dr Gowher Rizvi, International Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister, attended it as the guest of honor.
The second day of the event witnessed club activities and alumni events where seventeen of the distinguished Alumni were awarded.
