One awarded death penalty, two life for killing in Barisal

Barisal: A court here on Monday sentenced a man to death and two others to life-term imprisonment for killing a leader of anti-drug activists at Babuganj upazila in the district.

 

The death row convict is identified as Palas Peyada while the lifers are Mariam Begum and Joynal Abedin Bhuiya of Rajguru and Vuterdia villages of the upazila. The court also fined each of them Tk 50000.

 

Sudipta Das, First Additional District and Sessions Judge of Barisal, passed the verdict in presence of the accused after examining 10 witnesses, other evidences and documents.  District Public Prosecutor Advocate Gias Uddin Kabul said Shamsul Alam Mridha, local Krishak League leader and also the leader of anti-drug activists, was beaten to death by the accused on March 16, 2013.

 

Manowara Begum, wife of the victim, lodged a case against the accused with Babuganj Police Station.  Then, the case was send to Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
