Bangladeshi diplomat arrested in New York for forcing domestic help to work without pay

A Bangladeshi diplomat was arrested in New York in the United States on charges of worker trafficking and assault for forcing his domestic help to work without pay through threats and intimidation.

 

The diplomat is identified as Shahedul islam, 45 and a deputy Consul General of Bangladesh. He is living in Jamaica.

 

According to the allegation, the diplomat forced his Bangladeshi servent to work in his house without payment for three years and tortured him.

Shahedul seized his passport and forced to work 18 hours a day, according to the allegation.

 

Bangladesh Consul General of Bangladesh to New York Shamim Ahsan said Shahedul got bail after signed a bond of US dollar 50 thousand. But he did not get release yet. Police arrested him on June 12.
