The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) on Monday confiscated a luxury Porsche car of model Zaika Moon for evading tax.

Moinul Khan, director general of CIID, told media that the model was also fined Tk 1.5 lakh. She may even face criminal charges, he added.

The luxury car, worth Tk 3 crore, was seized by customs intelligence from the parking space of House 10, Road 33, Gulshan-1, Dhaka on 6 June 2016.

The car, with the number plate AS05AUM, was brought to the country from UK on carnet facility.

But Zakia did not take it back to abroad and was using it illegally inside the country, dodging tax of Tk 2.27 crore, Moinul Khan said.

Moon’s husband garment’s businessman Shafiul Alam Mohsin and the vehicle’s importer British national Afzal Ali have also been accused for tax evasion.

Mainul Khan also told media after investigations, the matter was referred to the commissioner, Customs House. Following procedures under the tax law, the verdict to seize the car was passed yesterday (Monday).
