‘Drug peddler’ killed in Pabna ‘gunfight’



A drug peddler was killed in a gunfight with police in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna district early Saturday.


The deceased was identified as Alia Vulu, 41, resident of Fate Mohammadpur area of the upazila.


The incident occurred at 5:15am near Pakshi Paper Mill.


Officer-in-charge of Ishwardi upazila Abdul High Talukdar said, Vulu was arrested on May 17 over drug case.


According to his information, police conducted a drive at the area.


Sensing presence of the police, the aide of Vulu opened fire on cops, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, triggered a gunfight, leaving Vulu dead on the spot and his aides fled the scene.


The body of Vulu has been kept in Ishwardi upazila hospital.
