Police in a special drive arrested some 49 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from different areas of four upazilas in the district during the past 24 hours.
The district police control room said that among the arrestees, 34 were held from Sadar upazila, one from Sreepur, three from Shalikha and 12 from Mohammadpur upazilas along with books and leaflets on extremism.
Most of the arrestees are the members of Jamaat-Shibir and involved in violence, police said.
The police made the arrest after cases were filed against them at different police stations in the district, he added.
The arrestees were sent to the court in the morning, reports UNB.
