The Dhaka University authorities on Saturday announced its proposed budget of Tk 664 corer 37 lakh for the 2017-18 fiscal year.
DU treasurer Prof Kamal Uddin announced the budget at Nawab Nabab Ali Chowdhury senate building on the campus. DU VC Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique delivered the welcome speech at the budget session.
The allocation for education sector is 10.66 percent of the budget.
An amount of Tk 416.07 crore, or 62.63 percent of the budget, would be spent for salaries and allowances of teachers and employees. About 15.96 percent of the budget would be spent for pensions of teachers and employees while 7.29 percent will be spent in other sectors.
Bangladesh University Grant Commission (UGC) will give Tk 610.10 crore while Tk 42.55 crore will come from the university’s own income. The deficit would be 11.72 crore, apprehends university syndicate committee.
Among others, pro-VC (Education) Professor Dr Nasrin Ahmed, Pro-VC (Administration) Md Akhtaruzzaman and University Registrar Mohammad Enamuzzaman, senate members, deans of different faculties and administrative officials of the university were present during announcement of the budget.
