Awami League's publicity and publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud has claimed the attack on BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's motorcade was nothing but a drama.
The Awami League leader came up with the remark while addressing a function at Muslim Institute Hall in the capital on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul and three other party senior leaders were injured as local Awami League supporters allegedly attacked his motorcade at Isakhali in Rangunia upazila on their way to hillslide-hit Rangamati area on Sunday.
BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, chairperson's adviser Ruhul Amin Chowdhury and Chittagong division organising secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shamim were among the injured.
In an instant reaction, BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, said, "The place where they came under the attack was Hasan Mahmud's area and the party men backed by Hasan Mahmud carried out the attack."
Agitated local people might have done something following the incident."
Referring to the allegation of the BNP leader, Mahmud said, "I heard about the incident. Two people were injured being hit by a vehicle of the motorcade of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
"Landslide in Rangamati district took place one week ago while the BNP leaders were going to visit the affected area on Saturday. Now, they made an excuse of attack which is mysterious. I think it's a drama," said Hasan.
