The Election Commission (EC) has directed the field officers to engage public representatives and village police to increase the number of women voters in the upcoming voter list, reports BSS.
Assistant Secretary of EC Secretariat Md Mosharraf Hossain sent directives in this regard to field officers and local public representatives on Thursday.
The commission gave directives to specify eight problems for women to become voters and get over these problems to increase the number of women voters.
According the EC, the eight problems included - reluctance to collecting birth registration certificates by paying fees, apathy in taking photographs in excuse of religion and unawareness of rural women and distant registration centres.
The EC asked the field officers to take cooperation from women public preventatives especially members of reserved seats at Zila Parishads, Upazila Parishads, City Corporations, Pourasavas and Union Parsidhads.
The EC will collect information about citizens who are eligible to become voters from July 25 to August 9. The commission will collect information of those who will become 18-year-old on January 1, 2018.
