Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya on Saturday warned that irregularities in distribution of relief materials among flood-affected people and their rehabilitation will not be tolerated.
"Tough action will be taken if any irregularity is found in relief and rehabilitation works. The relief activities will continue in the flood-affected areas until the victims return home from shelter centres," he said.
The minister was speaking at a special meeting of Sirajganj Disaster Management Committee at the Deputy Commissioner's office.
"No one will die for lack of food. The government will always remain beside the flood- affected people," said the minister expressing resentment as the officials concerned could not present the updated information of flood at the meeting.
Presided over by DC of Sirajganj Kamrun Nahar Siddiqui, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Shah Alam, district unit Awami League President and Jila Parishad Chairman Abdul Latif Biswas.
Later, the minister visited the flood-affected areas in Kajipur upazila in the afternoon.
