Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim has said the country is now exporting medicines to 140 countries around the world.
"Many drugs had to be imported after the country's independence and now only two to three percent medicines are being imported," he told a discussion on "The National Drug Policy 2016" organised by the Directorate of Drug Administration and the daily Prothom Alo in the city on Wednesday.
Mohammad Nasim said the government has closed down the factory of 66 companies to ensure quality medicines.
About model pharmacy, the health minister said, "We have established 180 model pharmacies in different districts. A total of 480 model pharmacies would be set up across the country."
Director General of the Directorate of National Drug Administration Major General Mostafizur Rahman, Tapan Chowdhury of Square Pharmaceuticals and Shwadinata Chikitshak Parishad president Dr. M. Iqbal Arsalal were also present.
