2 IU BCL men suspended for assaulting journo

The authorities of Islamic University (IU), Kushtia, suspended two activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Sunday for assaulting a journalist on the campus.   


IU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari disclosed the matter at a meeting with journalists at his office on the campus while Pro-VC Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, Acting Registrar SM Abdul Latif and Proctor Prof M Mahbubar Rahmar were also present at that time.


The suspended activists are Mohsin Kabir Mithu and Mazedul Haque Rubel, master’s students of Information and Communication Engineering Department of the university.


Mithu along with his friend Rubel assaulted Shah Alam, university correspondent of English daily ‘The Independent’ at Sheikhpara Bazar adjacent to the university on Friday night over a trifling matter.  


In this regard, the university authorities formed a probe body headed by Prof Dr M Mizanur Rahman of English Department of the university.


The other members of the body are Transport Administrator Prof Dr Anower Hossain and Chairman of Islamic History and Culture Department Prof Dr M Jahangir Hassain. The probe body has been asked to submit report as early as possible. -8
