Local BNP leader allegedly beaten to death by police

A local BNP leader was allegedly beaten to death by police at Shahjahanpur in Bogra district on Tuesday.

The deceased was Masudul Haque, 45, president of Bangladesh National Party (BNP) Ward-3 of Ashekpur union in Shahjahanpur, UNB reports.

Victim's wife Peyara Begum alleged that four police officers led by Inspector Anisur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of local Kaigari Police Camp, came to Masud's house and beat him mercilessly after arresting him.

At this, Masud fell sick and was rushed to Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, and later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where he breathed his last around 5pm.

However, denying the allegation, Inspector Anisur Rahman said Masud was not beaten but he told the police after arrest that he was a patient of heart disease. For this, they informed Masud's family members after admitting him to the hospital.

Officer-in-Charge of Shahjahanpur Police Camp Zia Latiful said Masud did not die of any beating, rather heart attack.
