Sundarbans to be free of robbers at any cost: Home Minister

 Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has said no-one will be allowed to commit robbery in the Sundarbans.

 

The government will rehabilitate the robbers who want to surrender and return to a normal life, he said, during a donation programme for rehabilitation of forest robbers at Sheikh Helal Uddin stadium in Bagerhat.

 

The Sundarbans will not only be free of robbers, it will be put under tight security blanker and deployment of law enforcers - Rab, police, Coast Guard and Navy –is being boosted to prevent the forest robbers, he added.   

 

The robbers who surrendered earlier will be provided proper assistance in all the cases filed against them, except for rape and murder charges, the minister said, reports UNB.  

 

A total of 132 pirates of 12 robber gangs were provided Tk 1 lakh each from the government and Tk 50,000 cash on behalf of EXIM bank, a mobile phone, and other essential food products like rice, red lentil, oil, etc during the rehabilitation programme.
