Eicher trucks, buses to be assembled in Bangladesh

India's Eicher brand commercial vehicles will be assembled in Bangladesh from next year at a state-of-the-art plant at Runner Motors, the country's leading automobiles manufacturer.

Initially, Eicher trucks and buses will be assembled at the plant. Gradually, Runner will add value like welding and painting to the vehicles and head towards manufacturing of commercial vehicles in the future.

Hafizur Rahman Khan, Chairman, Runner Motors Ltd, said this at a Meet the Press at the capital's Bangabandhu International Conference Centre today.

During the Press Meet, Eicher and Runner announced partnership on setting up a state-of-the-art plant at Runner's factory at Bhaluka in Mymensingh.

Vinod Aggarwal, MD & CEO, VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd, and Sohana Rouf Chowdhury, Managing Director, Rangs Motors Ltd, spoke at the Press Meet among others.

VE Commercial Vehicles Limited is India's one of the largest commercial vehicle manufacturers.

Replying to a query, Hafizur Rahman said Runner Motors has partnered with Eicher Trucks and Buses to start work on new completely knocked down (CKD) assembly facility.

"We have invested in a training school for Eicher trucks and buses where we are able to effectively train technicians within Bangladesh, thus continuously upgrading their skills."

He said Bangladesh is a fast developing nation and with Eicher's capability to provide vehicles with best in class fuel efficiency and higher productivity, they look forward towards continued synergy to modernize Bangladesh's commercial vehicle industry.

Vinod Aggarwal said Bangladesh has always been an important market for Eicher. "We were the first player to introduce BS III vehicles in the country. We bring together, Volvo Group's global expertise and world-class technology along with innovative engineering and proven DNA of fuel efficiency from Eicher."

"Equipped with new generation technology, assembly lines and testing facilities, the plant will roll out up to 500 units every month from next year," he told the media and added that Indian experts will train local engineers and technicians to make them skilled.

Technology will thus be transferred to Bangladesh, he said adding that Eicher is contributing to the country's economy through employment and income generation.

Sohana Rouf Chowdhury said Rangs Motors Ltd would start assembling of Eicher vehicles in the country soon. "The sales of Eicher vehicles have grown four-fold in the last 5 years. We have always maintained the position of market leader in mini buses segment, with Eicher being the preferred brand," she added.

Eicher Trucks and Busses has been present in Bangladesh since 1993 and in the last few years has significantly expanded the distribution network through partnership with Rangs Motors and Runner Motors. Sales and Service support is available through 25 touch points across the country to focus on sustainable growth and market share.
