Akshay Kumar turns 50

Akshay Kumar is undoubtedly one of the most admired actors of Bollywood. As this B Town superstar turns 50 on Saturday, here are some of his best performances that we can never get enough of!

Airlift (2016)

Based on the evacuation of around 1,70,000 Indians during the invasion of Kuwait by Saddam Hussein in the year 1990, 'Airlift' had a long- lasting impact on viewers.

Akshay played Ranjit Katyal, a businessman who sought to help his fellow citizens. His character was based on Mathunny Mathews, the real hero who helped in the evacuation of 1990. Akshay's portrayal of a businessman, loving husband, responsible father as well as a benevolent person who sought to help people amidst crisis was heart-wrenching.

Baby (2015)

Based on the actual RAW operation 'Baby', the movie had Akshay in the lead role of agent Ajay who captures a traitor and demands information from him regarding the terror attack plans in India. Throughout the movie, we are kept on the edge of our seats and the movie evokes a lot of thrill and excitement as to what would happen next. Akshay's convincing performance, perfect action sequences and time-to-time quirky jokes were like a cherry on top for the movie.

Holiday- A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014)

This is perhaps one of the most intense roles played by Akshay- that of a soldier and Defence Intelligence Agency captain Virat Bakshi, who is always at work. The movie had a fantastic storyline which showed how thankful we must be to all the soldiers who work day and night, to keep us safe.

OMG- Oh My God (2012)

'OMG- Oh My God' conveyed an important message to the audience. We saw the actor playing the role of Lord Krishna who is worshipped and admired by many. Not only did Akshay play modern-day Vasudev with conviction, but the movie also managed to create a magical effect on anyone who saw it. Paresh Rawal and Akki's camaraderie was a high point.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007)

In this movie which gave goose bumps to the audience, Akshay plays the role of a doting psychiatrist (Dr Aditya Shrivastav) who has an amazing sense of humour. The actor's versatility came out in this character as he made us laugh and tremble with excitement while uncovering a huge secret towards the end of the film.

Heyy Babyy (2007)

The story of three friends, one of them being a Casanova (Akshay Kumar aka Arush Mehra) who turns into a dedicated lover and a doting father. This particular movie evoked a lot of emotions in people. Akshay's performance was once again applauded.

Singh Is Kinng (2008)

We all remember the adorable character, 'Happy' played by Akshay in the much entertaining 'Singh Is Kinng'. The role of a happy-go-lucky Sikh man suited Akshay perfectly owing to his Punjabi accent and everything from his body language to his dialogue delivery was absolutely spot on!

Hera Pheri (2000)

No one can ever forget Hera Pheri's Raju who, like his two other friends, faces a shortage of money. What happens next is exactly what the movie's title suggests- Hera Pheri. The ultimate comedy thriller is one such piece where Akshay's performance was simply mind-blowing.
